The purpose of this text is to provide a general overview of the culture and is intended as a resource for students and teachers of European Archaeology.
It is located in South Germany, between the Pfyn assemblage near Lake Constance (Bodensee) and Altheim of East Bavaria.
At Reute-Schorrenried three radiocarbon dates suggest an existence from roughly 3750 – 3600 cal BC (Chronological Table). The earliest tree-ring date is 3738 dendroBC.
As the name implies, the assemblage shows traits of both Pfyn and Altheim, but does not possess the full range of either assemblage. It becomes predominant around 3700 cal BC in Oberschwaben, but may not directly relate to the preceding late Schussenried in the area.
Houses
The floor plan of the small, rectangular houses includes a porch or patio. Houses were constructed of waddle and daub (posts with wicker-like small sticks, covered by clay).
